Explosion Proof Actuator ATEX

TLX’s Explosion Proof Actuator ATEX offers a simple, clean and cost effective alternative to hydraulic actuators in hazardous locations. This ATEX electric actuator utilizes advanced roller screw technology to provide up to 15 times longer travel life than traditional ball screw solutions. It also reduces energy consumption and emissions while improving position control accuracy. This makes it an ideal solution for a variety of applications including air, fire and smoke dampers, HVAC, valves and other quarter turn armatures.

The ATEX designation, similar to UL HazLoc and NEMA ratings, helps users select equipment appropriate for its environment. ATEX stands for Atmospheric Explosion Protection and refers to the protection against ignition from potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres. Equipment is classified into zones based on how likely it is to be ignited in normal operation. The ATEX classification is accompanied by a suffix which defines the specific environmental conditions that the equipment can be used in.

A typical ATEX nameplate will display the Notified Body reference number, the equipment group (typically G or D), the temperature class and the equipment protection level. For example, the ATEX code on a Kendrion actuator will be CE0575 Ex d IIC T6 Gb.

ATEX actuators are typically used in environments where sparking poses a significant safety risk such as in mining, oil and gas operations or chemical transfer and processing. They are also often found in HVAC, marine or other demanding environments requiring ATEX approval. Explosion Proof Actuator UL Class 1 Div 1
