How to Turn on iPhone Camera Flash
When taking photos with your iPhone, you can enable flash for improved image quality. This feature is almost devoid of settings and can be activated through iOS built-in tools or third-party applications from the App Store.
But what if you’re not satisfied with your flash settings? Then there’s an easy way to force-enable the flash on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Camera App
The iPhone camera is one of the most powerful and versatile mobile cameras around. But sometimes it can be difficult to capture the perfect shot. This can be especially true when you’re in a hurry to snap a picture or video, or when you’re at an event where you want to get as many photos and videos as possible.
It can also be difficult to keep your focus and exposure locked, which is important if you want to adjust the lighting and color of your photo or video. You can manually lock both values, but you have to be careful not to override the app’s default settings.
Step 2: Tap the Flash Icon
The iPhone camera does a good job of picking up details in low light, but you can get better photos by using the flash. When you’re ready to take a photo or video, tap the Flash Icon on your iPhone and follow the instructions below.
First, open the Camera app and switch to either Photo or Portrait mode. Then tap the Flash icon, which looks like a lightning bolt.
This will put your camera in flash auto mode, which means the flash will be used whenever it’s needed to get a good photo. This is the recommended setting, and you should use it when you have little to no light available for a photo.
When you’re using the flash, it can help reduce glare and unwanted shadows. This is especially helpful for photos of text or documents, or for pictures that have strong light behind a figure (like in a portrait).
You can also use the iPhone camera’s flash to capture high-dynamic range (HDR) photos. These are more vivid than regular photos, and they’re great for taking action shots with a wide range of details.
Once you’ve set the iPhone camera to HDR, you can adjust the exposure of a photo by tapping and holding on a part of the image. This will bring up a focus square that shows where the focus is currently set.
Next, tap the flash icon again to change it to On or Off. Then, you’ll be able to adjust the flash level and other settings in the Camera app.
The flash is a powerful feature in the iPhone, but it can also make photos look harsh and unflattering. That’s why many photographers prefer to turn it off entirely.
If you don’t want the flash on, simply swipe up or tap the arrow button on your iPhone. You can also enable Optimize Battery Charging, a feature that will make the camera use less power.
You can also turn the flash on or off from the lock screen on some models, including newer versions of the iPhone. This is a tap-and-release movement, and it sends a haptic confirmation when you do so.
Step 3: Tap the Flash Settings Menu
When you first get your iPhone, it comes with a built-in flash that you can use for taking photos. It’s a great tool for illuminating dark areas, but it doesn’t always work well in all lighting situations.
Fortunately, you can adjust the flash on your phone to make it work better in all light conditions. You can turn the flash on or off, and you can even set it to auto mode, which only uses the flash when there’s a lot of light in the room.
You can turn on the flash by tapping the lightning bolt icon in the Camera app. This will open the Camera Settings menu, and you can enable the flash by selecting “On” or “Off.”
In addition to being able to turn on the flash by adjusting the camera’s settings, you can also tap the Flash button on the Lock screen to activate it. This works for all iPhones, including those with Touch ID and Face ID, and it’s especially helpful when you’re in a dark place and want to find something on your phone.
Step 4: Tap the Flash Settings button
If you have an iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, or any other model made after the iPhone 8, you can easily turn on your camera flash by tapping a button at the bottom of the screen. This is an excellent way to quickly access the flash, especially when you’re taking photos at night or in low light conditions.
Alternatively, you can use the Control Center to turn on your flash. For iPhones with Face ID, you can also press and hold the flashlight icon on the lock screen to activate it.
You can also add the Camera app to the Dock, making it easier to find. To do this, simply tap and hold the icon until it jiggles. After a second, you should see the Camera app appear in the dock at the bottom of your screen.
Now that you’ve added the Camera app to the Dock, it’s time to set up your flashlight shortcuts. You can create one that turns your camera’s flash on by double-tapping the back of the device, and another that turns it off by triple-tapping the back of the device.
Once you’ve created these two shortcuts, you can easily switch between them by tapping the Back Tap button on the Home Screen. You can even pair these shortcuts with your double- and triple-tap accessibility feature, which allows you to access many functions without looking at the screen.
If you need to take more than a few shots at once, you can shoot in burst mode. This is useful for capturing quick, action-packed scenes.
You can also shoot in slow-motion mode, if you’re recording video. You can also use the Camera app to adjust the exposure of your images, which helps you get better-lit photos.
Finally, you can adjust the focus point before you take a photo. This is helpful for ensuring that your subject is in sharp focus, particularly if it’s a bright object in the frame.
